Key features of the drive system are as follows:
- Large pump and motor rotating groups for long life and efficient operation
- Full-length axle housings to support heavy loads
- Twin Touch™ foot control for easy and precise change of speed and direction
- Internal wet-disk brakes for long life and consistent operation. Brake interlock system that returns the foot control pedals to neutral during panic stops.

-
MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and rapid conversion
The optional MulchControl system makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:
- Creates a beautiful looking lawn
- Smaller grass clippings disappear into the lawn canopy
- Reduces fertilizer needs
- Grass clippings are not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
- No need to dispose of bags of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:
- The MulchControl system includes an adjustable MulchControl baffle near the discharge chute and fixed baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
- The MulchControl handle, or an electric one-touch actuator, is on top of the mower deck and is used to open and close the MulchControl baffle.
- When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material flows freely out the discharge deflector or into a material collection system.
- When the MulchControl baffle is closed, material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.
MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:
- For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
- For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to close the chute to control clippings in some areas
- For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
- For operators who collect clippings but want to go farther before emptying the material collection system
MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings.
Electric one-touch MulchControl
Electric one-touch MulchControl systems shift the MulchControl baffle using an electric actuator that is operated by a dash-mounted switch.
Operators can convert between modes without interrupting the mowing process, making it possible to change between modes:
- When approaching driveways or flower beds where clippings would be undesirable
- When a breeze blows clippings back onto the operator
- For side discharge mowing only the areas of the property where grass is too thick for mulching
- With 48A and 54A Mower Decks, for collecting only the areas of the property where grass is too tall or thick for mulching
MulchControl limitations
While in the side discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one third of the material. Therefore, the side discharge mode is essentially a partial mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:
- When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
- When cutting in wet, high growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
- When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired
- 42A Mower Deck requires a MulchControl baffle be removed to install the bagger chute
When bagging with MulchControl on a 48A or 54A mower deck, the MulchControl baffle can be opened or closed with the Power Flow™ blower installed. The Power Flow blower runs without material when the baffle is closed.
When bagging with MulchControl on a 42A mower deck, the cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with the MulchControl blades. However, the rear MulchControl baffle (A) needs to be removed to install the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.
MulchControl compatibility
Each MulchControl system is an optional field-installed attachment and includes everything needed: baffles, mulch blades, a handle (lever action attachments) or an actuator, wiring, and switches (electric one-touch attachments).

Excellent cut quality
Deep mower-deck stamping gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:
- Reducing the amount of recutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
- Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
- Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
- Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
- Exact Adjust deck-leveling system allows for easy and accurate leveling of the mower deck.
Productivity - getting the job done fast
Deep mower-deck stamping gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:
- Greatly improves mower's capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds
Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:
- Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
- Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
- The 48A Power Flow blower has an inlet housing with over 50 percent greater area than the 48X Power Flow blower used on previous machines.
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
The flat-top shape of the deck stamping is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:
- There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
- Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
- Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
- Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
- The depth of the Accel Deep mower deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck:
- Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
- Even for material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
- Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.
Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:
- The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.
A wash port is provided to make cleaning the underside of the mower deck easy.
- Hose connector is included with the mower deck.
Superior durability is designed in
The 48A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets, to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:
- Stamped from strong 10-gauge, 0.135-in. (3.4-mm) steel
- Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed
- The 48A has a 23 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 48-in. (122-cm) Mower Deck used on previous machines.
Mower wheels are heavy duty:
- Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
- Setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.
Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on engine lower bearings and mower deck bearings for longer life.
The 48A Mower Deck features a 5/8-in. (16-mm) diameter solid-steel rod side bumper that provides extra strength and protection.
Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.Versatility - easy to change between side discharge, mulch, and bagging modes
The 48A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:
- With an optional MulchControl system installed (along with the special mulching blades), changing from side discharging to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever or push of an electric switch.
- The Power Flow rear bagger can be used with MulchControl by simply using the MulchControl lever or electric one-touch switch to move the mulch baffle to the side-discharge position.
7-bu (247-L) Power Flow rear bagger
An optional 7-bu (247-L) rear bagger material collection system (MCS) is available. It provides an efficient means of collecting grass clippings and leaves:
- The Power Flow blower and chute are easy to install. The Power Flow blower swings out for easy cleanout and cleanup.
- The hopper design provides modern styling, great bagging performance, cleaner operation, and easy-to-empty bags:
- 7-bu (247-L) capacity
- Easy-to-attach Power Flow blower (ordered separately)
- Easy-to-attach chute (ordered separately)
- Air exhaust duct
- Convenient spring-latch
- Airflow fill indicator
- Quik-Tatch mounting
- Sealed hopper top
- Loose-knit bags available
Larger 14-bu (493-L) and 19-bu (670-L) MCS are available, in addition to the 7-bu (247-L) MCS, for specific X300 and X500 Series Tractor models.

Love this machine
I've had my x570 since April 2016. I really am pleased with my purchase. The diff lock is what really sets this unit above the x300 series. If you have hilly terrain to care for you will know where the extra money went. Also, the ability to change the transaxle fluid was a plus for me. Watch my video for visual details.

Best mower ever
They say you pay more for green paint. I guess you do but the green paint surrounds a far superior product. After months of research I settled on the x570 because of the hilly terrain in my yard. The turn radius is the tightest of any mower I have ever used. It has a ton of torque. It steers as easily as a car even without power steering. It's quiet for its size. The deck doesn't scalp the yard where all other mowers always have. I have one little monster hill that no other mower would get up. When this one slipped it hit the locking differential and it crawled right up it. I don't use cruise control because I don't have straight aways in my yard long enough to need it. Deck height adjustment is a breeze. It won't let you engage the blades until the brake is off and you're ready to mow. All in all I have nothing but praise except that the area of the deck where the spindles are doesn't allow for water to drain so you have to blow it out after? you wash it. Otherwise I would give this mower 6 stars out of 5. The quality really is that good.

worth every penny
Started with x300. Liked it but it wasn't enough mower for my needs. Got a good trade in on a new x570. Mows 4 to 6 acres evey week (7 months in a season) for the last 2 years with ease. Real big and beefy but turns well for its size. Great power and it is quiet like a mouse in comparison to my neighbors craftsman. The locking differential when on steep hills and slopes is a big plus. The cut is absolutely beautiful when deck leveling is fine tuned. Really Really like this mower! It's performance has convinced 2 good friends to purchase the same model.

overall very good mower, with some reservations
After years of mowing 3 acres with a craftsman mower made the decision to upgrade to a newer larger mower. I made the call to purchase the X570 which is a very good mover for my need. The X570 Has made mowing a lot more enjoyable and has cut my mowing time way down...plenty of power and the finish cut looks like I hire a lawn care business. My only con is..

2016 x570 John Deere Garden Tractor
This is a good machine. The Kawasaki 24 HP engine is strong. The speed of the tractor is much faster than you really need to go. Lots of power for many things, except pulling stumps, which it isn't engineered to do. But you can move gravel and some earth, if you get the front shovel (40") like I did. Mower cuts just fine. And you can get a rear tow-behind spreader for seed & fertilizer (for around 200 bucks). My Gorilla Cart (from Lowes) tows behind the JD, no problem. OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT comment: you are going to have a difficult time replacing the original oil filter. I think the factory must over-torque these, which makes it very hard to remove. Make sure you buy the JD OEM large wrench fitting for the oil filter. Even then, you will probably have a problem. I did Not have the JD OEM socket and it took me 3 hours and a lot of cussing to get the original oil filter off. There is not enough room in the engine compartment to get your hands in there and use a normal oil filter ribbon wrench, as you'll soon discover. Better yet, WHILE you're at the dealer, where you're buying the tractor, have the JD mechanic there LOOSEN the oil filter, then quickly hand tighten it in your presence. Otherwise, you're going to go through a big problem on your first oil change (if you're doing it yourself). Otherwise, I've found this garden tractor to be a wonderful machine. That front shovel is great. But, you're not going to be able to run the tractor up a fold-down trailer ramp. That's going to make you remove the front shovel every time you do that. Takes me about a half-hour (not the 5 minutes JD PR says). And you're not going to be able to pick up the heavy front shovel with your hands & back. You'll need a dolly. I realized this and planned accordingly. Seneca, SC Ag-Pro spent several hours with me, familiarizing me with the tractor. Good people. Buy from them if you're in their area.

Great heavy duty tractor
I bought mine June 2018. Brand new and had for 2 1/2 years now.. I have not had any problems with it. I have 127 hours on it and it is stored inside when I'm not using it. Plenty of power and easy to use and drive. Wasn't sure about spending that much on a mower but it is worth it. Traded in a X380 for this. This one has more stuff on it than the X380 and it is a nice upgrade. Very happy with it.

J.D. X570 w 48" mowing deck
Sweet Machine. So Far no problems but we put only 10 hours on tractor so far. It takes a little use too operating the auto transmission since we have manual transmissions on our other two garden tractors. The Accel Deep 48" mower deck is fantastic. Buy the oil filter wrench & front bumper, you will be glad you did.

A quality MAchine
Prior to this purchase, I had 3 Craftsman tractors. These were good, lasting about 10-12 years each (still have my old Craftsman as a backup), then I bought a x570 with 48" deck, wheel weights and brush guard. Paid about twice what my last Craftsman cost, but worth every penny! This is a heavy, well engineered tractor. I cut over two acres in West Virginia plus extra occasionally. I ran chains on my old Craftsman tractors, but don't need them with the locking rear axle. Didn't get the power steering, but much easier steering than my old tractors. Runs quieter. Great cut. Chops the grass up better and scatters evenly. Highly recommend!

Great Engine
I have owned two X500s over the years. And just purchased an X570 which has replaced the 500. The machine i traded in had retained a great deal of value even though it had 825 hours on the tach. This new machine does not seem to be as rugged as the ones i have had in the past. Especially the mower deck. Only time will tell !!!

X570 - 1.5 Seasons of Ownership
I bought a new X570 in May of 2017 and wanted to cut with it for over a season before writing a review. As of right now, I have 55 hours on the unit and it stays inside when not mowing with it. Overall, the X570 is a good mower in that it has so far outperformed other mowers that I have had. I have a lot of trees on little over an acre and the turn-radius is very tight which allows me to get around the trees very quickly and the locking differential allows me to navigate some of the tougher spots with ease. The design of the top of the deck doesn't allow clippings to pile up which allows for easy clean-up and the engine compartment doesn't get filled up with clippings either. On average, the speed at which the X570 cuts is also nice because it has reduced the overall time investment that goes with maintaining any yard. In terms of maintenance, changing the oil, etc. it is very easy to keep up with. The X570 does have a few negative impacts that I don't particularly like. The headlights could be better, the seat started splitting on me already (as I said, my X570 sits indoors while it isn't being used), and angled/offset cutting has some minor challenges even with the deck setup properly. In any case, I hope this review is helpful.

Perfect balance of size, power, and features
I originally started out I had purchased a John Deere X350. Fantastic tractor. I felt after using it to cut 4 acres of grass that it was not enough tractor for me. I used the John Deere promise and picked up the X570. This tractor has exceeded all my expectations! It doesn't even break a sweat cutting 4 acres every week. I have around 50 hours on it now, and just did my first transaxle fluid change. Everything is within easy reach, the ride is comfortable, the diff lock is amazing, and my lawn looks like a golf course. If you are on the fence between the x300 series and the x500 series, go for the x500 you will not regret it! This tractor will make cutting your lawn fun again. I was/am a huge fan of the 1970s heavy duty garden tractors. These tractors are now 50+ years old. Things break, parts are hard to find and in some cases no longer sold. I would spend more time working on my tractor than it took to cut my lawn! Now I just add fuel, check oil, and go enjoy cutting grass!

X570
I owned the s240 for a year and it was not enough for my complex property with hills. My dealer let me trade it in for a good price and trade up to the x570. There is no comparison. The X570 has more power than I'll ever need and love the fact that the transmission oil can be changed. Hoping it lasts for a long time.

Below Average Tractor
Tractor is almost 5 years old now with only 238 hours of mowing use. So far the seat was replaced because it was cracking & the reverse switch was replaced. I just ordered a new steering sector gear because the teeth are wearing off, oil drain tube because oil is leaking on the floor and shock absorber because the tractor jerks when you let off of the forward pedal. The mower deck wheels are so close to the deck that they rub causing a high pitch squealing noise. John Deere has some engineering issues that need to be addressed.

Two years of ownership and very pleased
I had an older John Deere 170 and was looking to upgrade, the dealer pointed me to the X570 and what a difference indeed ! I wanted the power flow bagger system for cutting the grass along with the 44 inch snowblower to fight these New England winters. I use this year round and it is a beast on both applications. I was so pleased with the X570 I purchased a John Deere 1025r tractor, loader, backhoe this fall to tackle the bigger jobs on the property and will keep the X570 to do the smaller tasks....

John Deere X570
Bought a new X570 with a 48" deck March 2018. WOW! This garden tractor runs great, is built very well, is very high quality and it performs in an amazing way. I moved up from a Deere L118 which I thought was very good. Night and day difference here. Lots of power and torque from the engine and transmission. Bought with HDAP rear tires. Wanted this tractor with the locking differential so it could handle all my hills, wet/mud spots and tough terrain. My L118 would often struggle and get stuck. Due to the X570 wider stance, much larger tires and HDAP tread on tires, I don't get stuck anywhere, nor lose traction and I did not not have to engage the locking differential; not one time. I'm really impressed. Some people complain of the choke which you have to hold on when starting it because it automatically returns to choke off. This works great. I think the engineers did this because many people run with the choke on after starting and this would hurt the engine. Controls are well thought out, but I would like to have seen the parking brake and deck lifter better identified. Got the mulching control with mulching blades... mulches in an outstanding way! Recommend the mulching control if your buying. Is better than bagging. The only real disappointment is that John Deere should have used the better quality automotive headlights that are on the 700 series; the price range of this X570 warrants it and it also should have rear tail lights, not just reflectors. Unit is more larger than my L118 was, but it runs much quieter including a quieter engine, deck and blades and it handles much better. Steers so easy; like it has power steering. Great pedals for forward and reverse. Nice LCD dashboard display and a big brake pedal. Seat is very comfortable. Cuts very fast and very even. Best cutting on any tractor I've ever seen. Can handle a rear tiller and a snow blower... a big plus. Highly recommended! Wow! Glad I got this unit! Long warranty of 4 years/500 hours.

GREAT MOWER
I RELALY LIKE THIS MOWER AND JUST HAD IT FOR THREE YEARS WITH ONLY 90 HOURS. IT IS RELIABLE AND NEVER GIVEN ME ANY ISSUES. I KINDA WISHED I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE ONE WITH POWER STEERING, BUT THAT IS A WANT, NOT A NEED. I EXPECT THIS WILL LAST ME MANY MANY YEARS. CHEERS!

Great machine. Worth every penny
If you want quality, dependability, and performance in a lawn tractor, look no further than the X570. I have a shade more than 3 acres of meadow to mow that gently slopes down to a lake. My Deere x570 is one powerful machine that can handle this with ease. The locking differential pedal really helps on hills (I have one steep hill and it climbs it with ease.) I have about 65 hours and it has never given me any problems. I highly recommend this lawn tractor.
