Excellent cut quality
Deep mower-deck stamping gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:
- Reducing the amount of recutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
- Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
- Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
- Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
- Exact Adjust deck-leveling system allows for easy and accurate leveling of the mower deck
Productivity - gets the job done fast
Deep mower-deck stamping gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:
- Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds
Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:
- Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
- Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
- Cut-and-throw chute has a large, optimized inlet which aids in collecting material by using airflow from the large deck opening
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
The flat-top shape of the deck stamping is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:
- There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
- Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
- Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
- Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
- The depth of the Accel Deep mower deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck
- Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
- Even flow of material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
- Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.
Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:
- The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.
A wash port is provided to make cleaning the underside of the mower deck easy.
- Hose connector is included with the mower deck.
Superior durability is designed in
The 42A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:
- Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
- The 42A has a 16 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 42-in. (107-cm) Mower Deck.
Mower wheels are double captured:
- Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
- Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.
Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on the engines lower bearing and mower deck bearings for longer life.
Rolled outer edge of the deck provides extra strength and protection.
Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.Versatility - easy to change between side discharge, mulch, and bagging modes
The 42A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:
- With an optional MulchControl system installed (along with the special mulching blades), changing from side discharging to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever or push of an electric switch.
- The cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with MulchControl by removing the rear MulchControl baffle (A) before installing the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.
7-bu (247-L) rear bagger
An optional 7-bu (247-L) cut-and-throw rear bagger material collection system (MCS) is available for use with the 42-in. (107-cm) Accel Deep Mower. It provides an efficient means of collecting grass clippings and leaves.
The hopper design provides modern styling, great bagging performance, cleaner operation, and easy-to-empty bags:- 7-bu (247-L) capacity
- Easy-to-attach lower chute (ordered separately)
- Air exhaust duct
- Convenient spring-latch

MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and rapid conversion
The optional MulchControl system makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:
- Creates a beautiful looking lawn
- Smaller grass clippings disappear into the lawn canopy
- Reduces fertilizer needs
- Grass clippings are not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
- No need to dispose of bags of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:
- The MulchControl system includes an adjustable MulchControl baffle near the discharge chute and fixed baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
- The MulchControl handle, or an electric one-touch actuator, is on top of the mower deck and is used to open and close the MulchControl baffle.
- When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material flows freely out the discharge deflector or into a material collection system.
- When the MulchControl baffle is closed, material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.
MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:
- For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
- For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to close the chute to control clippings in some areas
- For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
- For operators who collect clippings but want to go farther before emptying the material collection system
MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings.
Electric one-touch MulchControl
Electric one-touch MulchControl systems shift the MulchControl baffle using an electric actuator that is operated by a dash-mounted switch.
Operators can convert between modes without interrupting the mowing process, making it possible to change between modes:
- When approaching driveways or flower beds where clippings would be undesirable
- When a breeze blows clippings back onto the operator
- For side discharge mowing only the areas of the property where grass is too thick for mulching
- With 48A and 54A Mower Decks, for collecting only the areas of the property where grass is too tall or thick for mulching
MulchControl limitations
While in the side discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one third of the material. Therefore, the side discharge mode is essentially a partial mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:
- When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
- When cutting in wet, high growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
- When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired
- 42A Mower Deck requires a MulchControl baffle be removed to install the bagger chute
When bagging with MulchControl on a 48A or 54A mower deck, the MulchControl baffle can be opened or closed with the Power Flow™ blower installed. The Power Flow blower runs without material when the baffle is closed.
When bagging with MulchControl on a 42A mower deck, the cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with the MulchControl blades. However, the rear MulchControl baffle (A) needs to be removed to install the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.
MulchControl compatibility
Each MulchControl system is an optional field-installed attachment and includes everything needed: baffles, mulch blades, a handle (lever action attachments) or an actuator, wiring, and switches (electric one-touch attachments).

This John Deere x350 is all I need in a tractor FANTASTIC
Fantastic yard tractor great turning radius plenty of power up steep grades Easy to service Love it

Love this mower!!!
quality of this mower much better than the entry level 100 series available at big box stores. Wanted to buy a mower that would last a very long time. Cut and bagger system quite good although bagger is rather expensive! However, again the quality is far superior to the entry level 100 series bagger.

Poorly engineered bagging system
Bought the X350 along with the bagger. While I like the mower, a must have for me was the bagging system. However, the plastic bagger chute interferes with the dischrge flap on the mowing deck and pushes the mower deck down on the right causing the grass to cut unlevel. I took the mower back to my local Deere dealer to fix and when I left, it seemed to cut better. However, after getting it home and mowing, grass was flying everywhere and I noticed they had loosened the pressure on how the bagger mounts to the deck causing a gap between the mower deck and the bagger chute. I figured the blades were simply not leveled up and that's all it needed, but the dealer obviously knows of this issue and tried to bandaid it. I guess I will have to live with an expensive mower that cuts grass uneven rather than have grass blowing all over me when I mow. Come on John Deere, get some real engineers in there instead of local good old boys and make something that works. As a design engineer myself, this product is half baked. John F - Iowa

Wife & I both Happy!
My wife & I traded in our old L110 for this X350 and we are both amazed on the time it saves on mowing. Powerful Kawasaki Engine. Excellent Turn Radious. Smoother mowing the ditches. Doesn't seem to use as much gas. We both love the ride. Currently have our other D110 in the shop for regular maintenance. Yes, we have a lot of acrage to keep up. We both enjoy mowing, and we both prefer the reliable John Deere brand. Tip: If you go into a John Deere dealer, they take in trades. Also note: The X Series can only be purchased at a John Deere dealer. My wife & I highly recommend this X350.

So happy
I had to replace my LT 155 and I couldn't be more pleased! I have 1.25 acres of uneven ground and the X350 handles it with ease. It runs much quieter and it has a great turn radius. I am a widow and need something dependable so I never even considered any other brand. Highly recommend this mower!

Bagging attachment
Recently purchased X350 with bagging attachment to replace my LT160, I bought in 2004. Unfortunately it was flooded in Hurricane Florence, still ran perfectly. X350 runs perfect, love the cruise control. Issue with X350 bagger is installation of chute and the mesh bags. In order to install chute, you must loosen the bolts holding the attachment arm to mower head and then re-tighten. Old system had a rubber strap to attach. the mesh bags are basically useless as they allow dirt to fly all around you. When you finish mowing, you and the mower need a shower to remove the dirt and debris. Bad engineering on bagger attachment!!

Start worrying if you have sweetgum balls.
Silly me. I thought my new JD would be just as tough if not tougher than my 18 year old JD. No. Apparently the sweetgum balls sneak under the transmission belt and destroy it. My dealer said (after my purchase and service call) "We tell everyone in the Carolinas 'bout them sweetgums." Nope. Definite design flaw. My Deere needs mudflaps or gumflaps!

Excellent residential mower
I bought the X350 (42 inch) new in 2016. I've been very happy with it so far. I don't use it for anything other than cutting grass and occasionally pulling a cart. The 18.5 hp Kawasaki starts and runs very well. The turning radius is perfect for getting around objects and the 42" deck allows me to get through spots the where the 48" couldn't. Maintenance has been pretty straightforward and there is an underhood schedule to reference, which is helpful. The only thing I wish this unit had was a locking differential, as it would be helpful in some of the more hilly spots on our property. In my opinion, if you're serious about getting a John Deere lawn tractor, stay away from box store units. Go to the dealer and get the X300 series at minimum.

My yard has never seen a mower this good
I purchased the X350 to replace a ten year old Craftsman (Husqvarna) mower with similar specifications (42" deck, 18.5hp engine, etc.). However, the Craftsman doesn't compare to how good the X350 performs when mowing my lawn! The new Accel Deep deck performs so well, I have found that the thatch and other debris previous mowers left behind are being sucked up and deposited into the material collection system I bought alongside the X350. Before I got the new mower, I was thinking I was going to have to dethatch my lawn - but now, there's no reason! As a previous reviewer mentioned, the Kawasaki engine is quieter than the Briggs engines I've used, although I wish it could be even quieter. I originally intended to buy the S240, but for the $500 price difference I found the additional features were well worth the money!

Speed, rigidity, control and comfort...
Mowing about 2.5 acres in half the time it took on the big box store Husqvarna model. We have 3/4 acre of landscaped lawn and balance is rough field. Upgraded this summer when my daughter's family bought a house with acreage and I got tired of hauling my old one back and forth. Comfort when operating is night and day from the Husky. Power steering and seat construction/position are awesome. Love how easy it is to remove the bagger system and connect the trailer. Mows up the steep hill we have in the front without even breathing hard and handles the sides of the gully leading to the pond like a champ. Wish I'd spent the money years ago.

Great tractor, but remember its limits
I purchased a brand new x350 in may of 2018. Fantastic tractor. Cut was perfect. I was in love for the first cutting until I pulled the tractor in the garage. My local John Deere dealer recommends a D or E series tractor for an acre. I don't agree. They recommend the x300 for up to 4 acres, and the x500 and x700 for anything larger depending on implement usage. I purchased an X350 for cutting 3.5 acres of semi flat ground. No major hills, slopes, or loads. The K46 transaxle became so hot that I could not touch it! It is non-serviceable. How long would the transaxle of lasted to that abuse? Internet searching quickly proved to me that my thoughts were right, as I had found thousands of people who had burnt up their K46 transaxle. I am not sure why John Deere, and many others, insist on using the garbage that the tuff torque K46 is. I do not recommend anyone buy a tractor with a K46 unit. I cut with it twice, called my dealer and used the John Deere promise and got an X570. It would of only been a matter of time before the transaxle failed. This tractor for one to two acres of flat ground would be perfect. Anything else, I would suggest the X500 series. The D and E tractors, I wouldn't go more than a 1/2 acre. If you have your heart set on a X300 series, I would recommend the X380 and above as they do have at least a serviceable transaxle with the K58 unit.

Great Mower
I have had my unit for 3 years now (X-350 will mulch kit) and it works great. Had walk-behind JD mower and it broke after 10 years. Decided that since I am getting older and the lawn needs more work - that it was time. It is a great addition with the added de-thatcher and now a lawn vac. I am glad that I made the investment and look forward to a future with a upgrade if needed.

Very powerful...
This is my 3rd John Deere and it is excellent. I actually consider it to be a replacement for my long gone convertible sports cars (1966 Austin Healey 3000, et al}. It's a lot more reliable but is just as great of a ride with the fresh air blowing through what used to be a full head of hair. It's an excellent machine. The cup-holder and the box to hold my cell phone are also very nice.

Smooth, Quiet, Powerful
I needed a replacement for my trusty 20+ year old John Deere STX38, and the x350 seemed to be about the modern equivalent. I looked at a number of other options, including a Cub Cadet XT2 with similar deck/engine/transaxle, which could be had for about $600 less. In the end, I stayed with the x350 primarily because of my past experience with durable JD mowers. I'm really glad I sprung for the extra cost, because the x350 is a much nicer machine. It runs so smoothly and quietly and has plenty of power to mow uphill. I was initially very taken with the Cub Cadet fabricated deck, but I think that the x350's Accel deck is every bit as good, if not better. I'm getting a very smooth cut, even when mowing through tall grass, and the clippings spread far and wide from the discharge chute. I'm a big guy (6'1", 300lb) but I feel very comfortable on the nice 2-piece seat, and the foot controls are super-easy to use. I'm looking forward to many years of use out of this beefy mower!

Awkward midlevel machine
Smaller 18.5hp motor is great wide open mowing. Made it all the way through an hour and a half of use. I did not like the sound and feel of motor at lower rpms. Engine used a lot of fuel also. Mower height dial on center of foot deck is getting kicked when I get off machine. It is a poor location. The orange dash lever that locks the brake pedal is lifted to engage. should have push to engage and release when pedal is pressed. That and the reverse button when mowing are annoying. Don't like the plastic hood. Scratches real easy. Cup holder will not hold a travel mug unless it is real small. Overall this doesn't have the attention to detail I expected from John Deere. Even the linkage from the steering shaft to the wheels is loose and makes noise from a poor fit. The hinge holding the seat is loose and rattles when not sat on. The little throttle lever is so stiff to move it hurt my wrist. U am very happy the corporation's are doing such a fine job of decreasing costs of production, but I am not wanting the sub par products anymore. I traded up to the X380 48" mower. I am hoping for a better experience with the upgrade. Unfortunately except for the different engine the other issues may carry over to the 380

Much easier steering than previous models, quieter and smooth hydro
I have owned 3 JD's in 46 years and this is the 3rd and the best the best. I purchased one for myself about 6 weeks ago and I am seriously considering purchasing a 2nd one for my son when he moves into his new house. I like the digital dash for easy maintenance reminders, the foot raise/lower pedal of the mower deck and the steering is so much easier than the earlier models. I was concerned I might need power steering, but the 350 steers so easily, there is no need for me, as a senior, to have the power steering. This tractor won't attach to many implements, but it will do everything I need to do.

Does a terrible job of mowing.
I purchased the mower three months ago, added the mulch kit. The machine itself is nice but does a terrible job mowing. It mowed uneven leaves a section of I cut grass right down the middle of the deck. It's been in the shop three time in three month and it still does a lousey job of cutting grass. I call the dealer today and told them to pick it up because I've had it. For courthouse dollars I expected better and because it is a Jinh Deere I expected much better. Never again, I'll go back to my Tori 21 inch push mower. It mowed much better.

I still have my first John Deere LT155 for 19 years, it never failed to start or run.
Two years ago I bought the X350, when it was delivered the driver took it off the truck and said here is you tractor and hat and left. No demo of features or anything else. I notice the seat had a wrinkle on the right side but thought it would go away over time. It only got worse and about a year later it started cracking. It was running good so I delayed calling the dealer. Earlier this year I notice it was cracking in a number of places. I assumed that the bumper to bumper warranty would cover the seat. The dealer said it was normal wear and would not replace the seat. The tractor only has 26 hours on the odometer. My first tractor never did this and did not show any major wear for at least fifteen years. I was going to buy a bumper and some other attachments, now I want to sell it!

Great mower three years, but horrible seat. Cracks
My X350 has worked very well so far after three years. The only complaint I have is the seat has cracked in three places. It is garaged, maintained and kept very clean. So why does the seat crack?? I've seen numerous postings all over the web about these seats failing this way. Terrible example of what is supposed to be a high quality product! Had to put duct tape over the cracks to keep them from tearing further. I'm embarrassed to be seen with this tractor now!

Flawless
Bought my machine a few months ago and have not been happier since. It's not nearly as loud as the other neighbors when I mow. The deep deck and mulch kit I added really get the grass cut up nice. I just added the lawn strip kit to the mower and it really does look like a professional is mowing our yard. The machine starts up great every time and is very smooth running. It has a great turn radius, very easy to get on and off of it. Looking forward to many great years and will never look at anything else when it comes to my mower. Thank you.

very good tractor, mower works perfectly, am going to look into hydraulic or electric lift for snow blower, but otherwise all is well with my x350 john deere. I am at 50 hours with my 2020 model and so far haven't experienced any problems. With chains I get around very well in heavy snow and motor, kawasaki, handles heavy snow really well. This is my second John Deere Lawn Tractor
My first Lawn tractor was a 125, which served me well for ten years but as I mow a couple of rough lots it finally started to show quite a bit of wear. I gave it to a friend and bought an X350. I'm starting my fourth season with the X350 and it has just over 300 hours on it. I've followed the John Deere maintenance schedule and the Kawasaki engine adjustment schedule. The only problem I've had was that it threw a belt after three years. I bought a new one and all was fine but then the belt tensioner spring broke and I didn't check to see why the belt had started squeaking when engaged so the replacement belt wore in two. I ordered a new tensioner spring and belt and all it good thus far. I had to adjust the toe-in of the front wheels this summer and there is a bit of play in the front wheel bearings but, as I said, the mower leads a rough life. The deck idler bearings have a small amount of play after three years too but probably won't need changed for a couple more years. I wire brush and repaint the underside of the deck every fall, which prevents rust. Besides mowing, I pull a dethatcher and an aerator a couple of times a year over about two acres. I also pull a small trailer.

quality plus
After years of buying other brands, I finally bought a genuine John Deere. The quality and workmanship ate evident from the smallest detail to the overall design. The x350 makes yard work a pleasure and the results are outstanding. Fuel consumption is a bit high, but the emissions and noise are low. It’s also expensive, but if you’re looking for a lawn tractor that will last year after year, then this it it.

Quality, Powerful and Stripes
My first John Deere, I replaced a Hustler Raptor 42" ZTR that my wife could not seem to warm up to. Brought this home and the wife jumped on and once around the 3/4 acre yard, she was sold! The Raptor had a similar Kawasaki motor so I was at home with this model. The X350 is very close to the Raptor in terms of mowing time but surprisingly much better striping with the X350's Accel Deep Deck compared with the Hustler. The yard now looks like a PGA golf course. A quality tractor through and through, this unit has a nice tight turning radius (better than I expected), easy steering for a tractor this size and a feeling of quality DNA from the comfortable seat, control layout, digital dash panel displaying useful data and an EZ deck leveling system (tools provided) and automatic choke, John Deere has a winner here with the Z350 product. Maybe a few bucks more than the competition but I see this tractor outlasting me with the four year warranty included. In summary, all I can say is if your on the fence or just in the market for a top quality estate tractor with all the safety features, don't hesitate, get the X350 - you'll be glad.

48 inch mulcher deck
Nothing runs like a Deere, everything mows better than a deer. The 48 inch mower deck is a rip-off. Either that or the dealer is incompetent. Either way both carry the John Deere Banner. The deck tilts on even the slightest of incline when cutting across my yard causing it to cut shorter on one side than the other making my yard look like I am cutting flag strips. It's as tight as it can go and the dealers says they have done all they can do. I like my grass longer so it it healthier, greener and uses less water trying to re-grow. The only way to compensate for the tilting is to cut the grass short and lower the side wheels on the deck, thereby scraping them on pavement and cutting the yard on turns. Turning while cutting seems to magically shut the outer blades off because when I turn around, I see 50% uncut grass across the entire width of the deck. Then, cutting in a straight line, the deck "mohawks" my yard. Thin strips of uncut grass remain. My neighbors laugh at me because their 30 year old tractors cut better. I have had it back to the dealer twice. They told me they have done all they can do and that when they cut with it in a ditch, it seemed to work fine. A ditch is not a yard. I emailed John Deere and they told be to take it to the dealer. A vicious circle. There I sit with about 4 grand in this thing and everyday I walk through my garage and see it, I can't help but get angry at the waste of money it is and how poor of a response I have gotten from John Deere in general.

Has the best reviews of almost any mower
After cutting all my personal yards for nearly 60 years (I was also a lawn mower mechanic as I worked my way through college), I have an eye for quality. To me, this mower is well worth the extra few hundred dollars above the 100 and 200 series made by John Deere, with a better quality engine and much better stronger deck. The cutting quality from this mower is excellent. I use my X350 on a two acre lot with excellent results. I have a John Deere 4052R tractor for my 200 acre vacation home in the Rocky Mountains, which has been one of the most dependable machines I have ever owned, so I am partial to John Deere. The K46 transmission in the X350 is perfect for my 2 acre flat piece of land, and will hopefully last as long as the engine, but if you have hills, or more than 3.5 acres, I recommend you move to to the X500 series with a stronger transmission and a locking rear differential. I think John Deere would sell a lot more mowers in the X300 series if they offered a X360 mower with a stronger transmission, without the power steering and steering assisted rear wheels that comes standard with the models larger than the X350 (I'm not a fan of either of these two features which I feel are really unnecessary and are just extra mechanical items to pay for and maintain). I would gladly pay a few hundred dollars more for a better transmission without the power steering (the steering is so easy as it is) and rear wheel turning assist (this mower turns already very sharp). I just do not understand why John Deere does not offer this. Competitor mowers do offer this, and I know people who bought these mowers wanting the stronger transmissions in this price range, but they have been very disappointed with the quality control, undependability, and poor looking cut patterns in their yard by these competitor (like a problematic mower brand starting with the letter H) mowers. I'm very happy with my X350 for my flat two acre yard needs.

Quiet, Easy to Operate, But Cheap Plastic Body
Really love how easy this machine is to drive, and how quiet it is. Only issue I have is that the hood cover is made of fragile plastic; cost of ordering replacements for two cracked hood panels is $300. If you drive a little rough may wish to add a front bumper with brush guard (if available from your dealer); I developed a bad habit with my previous John Deere of closing gates by "gently" driving into them (easy way to crack this X350's hood). Mowing under low hanging shrubs finished off cracked hood panels.

Terribly disappointed
First thing to say is my overall rating is based on the cut quality, the build and handling is first rate. I purchased this mower after reading the Consumer Report reviews and using my neighbors and listening to them talk about their JD lawn tractors. I have an acre lot plus I cut my neighbors grass which is about a half acre. I wanted something to handle both, that would last with no problems. My previous mower had lasted about 17 years but the last 3 have been a struggle. So after some research I spent the extra on the JD 350 and after 5 cuts I must say I am frustrated beyond belief. Half acre of my yard has a slight slope to it and this mower leaves lines in my yard. I called the local dealer after the first three cuts and they picked it up and readjusted everything and the last 2 cuts since then have been no better maybe even worse. After spending the money for a Deere I'm seriously second guessing my decision and I am extremely frustrated and disappointed. One of my neighbors has a mower that I had considered and it cost less and the overall cut looks better.

Great machine
I had a LT133 and the rear axle broke and could not be repaired, it was over 17 yrs old. I bought the X350 42 in and I just love it! I really liked my LT133, but this machine is a real wow! It is so much quieter and I had the mulching kit installed. It doesn't leave clumps of grass and it cuts the grass into very small pieces. I just love the way it mows my yard and I get a lot of complements on how will my yard looks. John Deere came a long way from my 17 yr old LT133! I love all the features it has, but the one thing you have to learn with this machine is when you go into reverse. You have to push that yellow button down before you even come close to going into reverse, it's very touchy. Over all, John Deere, you did a great job on this one!

Maybe I am just unlucky with a couple nice mowers
I bought my X350 48" side discharge 2 years ago and my X350 42 M one year ago. Each had problems within the first year. Besides the problems described below, the 48" tractor's seat is split in several places. I'd read these are problematic but really expected it to last more than a year or 2.

best riding mower
I bought this X350 in March of 2019. I had researched it for months. It was the X350 or a zero turn. I couldn’t be more happy with this mower! It is truly the Caddilac of riding mowers. The Kawasaki engine is a beast. The turn radius is almost like a zero turn. It’s pricy but you get what you pay for. And the 3 yr warranty covers EVERYTHING. It’s my 3rd John Deere and they just keep getting better

Very Impressed with X350
I recently traded in my 2007 JD X300 and I was originally going to trade for a X330 and found out I would be downgrading my motor so I decided to go with the X350 and so far I am very pleased with this lawn tractor. The tractor had 0.2 hours when I picked it up and I've been using it around the yard and it takes on hills with no problems. I would recommend this tractor to anyone looking for a good quality lawn tractor

Mowing TRACTOR
I have owned 7 John Deere Tractors, compact to this size. My X350 has manual lift which was a mistake for me if you plan on changing for snow blowing. It does a great job blowing snow. The changeover is the most difficult of all JD tractors I owned. Spend extra for the one with power lift or have the dealer do it.

The best lawn tractor I've ever used
My philosophy is one that I try to wait a year before writing a review so that my feedback will be more meaningful. I bought this mower to replace a craftsman that I have had for two decades and I love it so far. I live on a small farm with two John Deere tractors so jumping on this machine was a seamless transition. The ease of use is amazing and I didn't know you could back up without turning off the blades on a tractor but this one does! The engine is great and appropriate for my 4 acre yard. The mower has a good turning radius and is very comfortable to drive. There are some design flaws that you should know about before you buy this machine. Don't get me wrong...I do not regret my purchase but I admit I am surprised that the engineers didn't do better than this. 1. The biggest issue is the wheels on the deck. I was driving without the blades on pulling my straw sweeper. As the weight got heavier back there, I guess it weighed down the machine putting pressure on the back deck wheels. You see...the deck has wheels but it does not float on the ground. I am 6'1" and 180 lbs but that shouldn't matter. The extra weight caused the wheels to be forced into the lawn creating heat on the plastic wheels. The heat melted the back two wheels and they came off the deck. I replaced them at $30 dollars each (omg!) and promised myself that I would raise the deck next time I towed anything. Yesterday, I was cutting a family members yard along the driveway and the side two wheels where pushed into the yard because of the slope. Off they go again along with another $60!! 2. You can't change the oil without getting oil all over the deck and I'm not about to remove that thing just to change the oil. Most mowers these days have a hose coming out of the bottom of the crankcase where you can drain the used oil into the pan. The deck is too high to rest it on top of the deck. Anyway...more thought could have been put into that.

Nice ...but not as good as I expected
I bought the x350 because I wanted the best, after a long research period I thought I found it. Not so.... The good, ::: love the engine, and ease of driving. Looks great, not too big or too small Dash display is very informative , perfect if it had a clock. The bad:::: Digital display gets fogged over within 15 minutes and stays that way for over an hour. Hood scratches easy. As well as the headlights. Front wheels, they wobble, not the rim but he tires on the rims, you can feel it when you drive it on hard surface ( driveway) Forward peddle is a little small, and the brake is way too high , in a panic situation you would never be able to lift you leg high or fast enough to stop it. You can't just lift you foot, you must lift your entire leg to reach it. I want to love this mower, but I can't get over the foggy dash display and wobbling tires. I will try to attach a pic of dash display on a update to this review Thinking of returning it and getting a Cub Cadett..

X350 42"
My wife and I discussed for months on which riding mower would best fit our needs for the next 10 years. This is our first riding mower, I have been using a high end push mower for 20 + years now. Our new yard is just shy of 3/4 of an acre. We debated all winter on what to get. Originally we decided on the Husqvarna Fast Tractor YTH24V48 48 inch 24 HP Lawn Tractor. Then they changed the transmission to the one that many negative reviews can be found in their Craftsman counterpart. We then decided that the John Deere S240 would fit the bill at that point. However, knowing our expectation was for this mower to be a long term purchase, we decided to stop by the dealership and see them in person. And boy, are we glad we did. It would have been a total mistake for us to purchase the S240. Here is why (Keep in mind I am 6'2" and about 220#'s)... We felt it was worth $400 more to go from the S240 to the X350 for these reasons... The mowing deck is superior in every way. The pedals placement for forward/aft are clearly well thought out and positioned in what feels "Natural". No forced weird angles, do not have to "Look" for the pedals. We wanted the Kawasaki engine for the history/proven track record and to be frank, it was not as noisy as the Briggs was. The Briggs sounded more like a souped up push mower engine with a less than appropriate muffler. Now that said, I still would like the Kawasaki to be a little quieter. The actual "Body" of the X350 seemed to be more in touch with what all the riding mowers should be built like. It allowed for easier access on and off the rider, and better placement of all the items needed to be a rider. I can place the seat all the way back, reach the steering wheel comfortably and never get close to hitting my legs with my hands while in use. The X300 series "Feels" like they are built to work. Our only advice to those looking at making a purchase, go ride them and see them in person.

Awesome lawn tractor
I did a lot of research on this purchase, and relied pretty heavily on Consumer Reports, which rates this the best home lawn tractor that you can buy, with the S240 close behind. It's a bit pricey compared to the competition, but after about 10 hours of use, I am glad I bought this machine. I considered the 48 inch deck with the PowerFlow bagger, but when I sat on it in person, it just seemed to be too much like a tank. The 42" suits my needs better, as I don't have a massive lawn, I have to get through closely-spaced trees, and scalping is an issue in some uneven spots. The 42" with two blades seems like a better bet for scalping than the 48" with 3 blades. I bought the Deere pull-behind lawn sweeper instead of the PowerFlow. I won't know how that works out until leaf season in the Fall. It starts and runs like a champ. I really like the two different "accelerator pedals" for forward and reverse, and love that you can cut in reverse without stopping the blades. It is fairly stable and does well on our hills. I got the mulching attachment and mulch blades and it works great. It is a simple lever that closes the side-discharge chute to mulch, and opens it to side-discharge. They offer an electrically-actuated model but that was 3x the price and seemed like an unnecessary level of complexity and a potential maintenance issue. You have to get off the seat to open or close the chute, but usually you are either side-discharging or mulching, right? Adjusting the deck height is a breeze. The fuel filler is easy to access, right on the fender over the wheel well. The gauges and controls are easy to read and informative. I also thought about a zero-turn. This one is close. If you just jack it all the way and start spinning, the uncut circle is only about 18 inches. It is very maneuverable. It is not as loud as they say. The only con so far is I wish it had more than two anti-scalp wheels, both of which are on the front.

Best John deere I have owned
I absolutely love this mower. I have owned a 100 series and a 240 series John Deere mower before purchasing this one. The engine runs smoothly and is quiet. It is also very powerful. I opted for the 42 inch accel deep deck with a mulch kit. It cuts the grass and disperses the clippings well. It is perfect for my yard which has flower beds and trees to navigate around. The operator station is easy to use and is laid out well. The deck height adjustment is also operator friendly and is easy to use. It is also very easy to adjust up or down if needed to dial in your perfect mowing height, or to match it to a trim mower if you use one. The seat is comfortable and is adjustable. It provides adequate air flow. It comes with a 4 year bumper to bumper full warranty. John Deere also offers a 30 day owner satisfaction guarantee and will allow you to return the mower if you do not like it. It is far superior to anything the competition offers. Two thumbs way up !

Just Purchased and highly impressed. Replaced a 100 series with the 350 and difference is substantial. Took 1 and 1/2 hrs. less time to mow, cut is much better and overall ride much improved over the 100 series. I have 2 acres of uneven ground to mow and handles very well. Season 3 review.
Going on my 3rd season with this mower. It's a workhorse. Starts everytime. Runs for hours in end. Our place isn't exactly mower safe. It does a real good job at chewing up unexpected items. Couple things I'd like to see different tho. The mulch attachment closes up too much of the side discharge. It's a must to pull it before that 1st of year tall grass mowing. Would also like to see a man's size cupholder. One it comes with is too shallow. Really only fits a 12oz can.

Switched from a Cub
I was in the market to replace a 20 year old Cub 2155. Fully expected to go with them again but equivalent quality (built to last 15-20 years+) was a huge jump up in price from the big box store models and was way more than I needed. I was pleased to find the X350 hit the "sweet spot" of exactly what I was looking for in terms of long lasting quality for the 1/2 acre yard I mow. Really impressed with how easily it handles with the tight turning radius. Cuts beautifully; discharge really spreads out the clippings so I no longer have to consider raking up clumps of grass. Very pleased so far and would highly recommend.

Smooth and Powerful
Just bought my JD X350 a month ago after owning a JD L130 for over ten years. Gave the L130 to my son in law and I upgraded to the X350. Powerful motor and the torque is unbelievable. Will add a snowblower attachment this winter. My family now owns 3 of the X300 series mowers (and one L130). John deere continues to prove itself with the quality products. The price you pay is worth the quality and the service you get with John Deere.

Better than I imagined
Purchased the X350 after a lot of reviews. I could not be happier. I have just under one acre to be mowed and was unsure if the X350 was to big. It is not. I bought the mulch kit and have not raked up any grass clippings since the first use. Rides smooth and cuts clean. Performed the break in oil change and was very happy with how easy it was to change. The extra height of the deck has turned my grass into a show winner.

Runs and cuts well. Makes whinning sound in reverse. NOT happy that it uses oil. Questioned dealer who said that it could use up to an ounce of oil per cylinder every two hours. 10 hrs on it oil level was at add mark went ahead and changed it. I guess all the newer engines must use oil vs the older ones.

Grandpa would be proud!
My grandpa was a lifelong farmer in Iowa and his main tractors were John Deere. It has always been my dream to own a John Deere, and now I finally have one (even though it's not a 4020 or 4440). I have mowed twice with my new X350 with the 42A-inch mowing deck and everything has worked perfect. The turning radius is awesome, making tight turns a breeze. Part of my yard involves slopes and banks, and I have had no traction issues or wheels that slip or spin. The controls are easy to operate and once you develop some "muscle memory" certain functions become automatic (e.g. brake, forward, and reverse pedals). The one thing I am still getting used to is the safety control for reverse while the mower blades are engaged. I understand why there is a safety control to prevent the mower blades from turning while driving in reverse, and it definitely will take some time to get used to . . . but it's frustrating when the PTO switch needs to be turned off and then on again to engage the blades after driving in reverse (Sometimes I forget to push the yellow safety control down before hitting the reverse pedal and then need to re-engage the blades again). At the time of purchase, I added the two-bag bagger system and that has worked perfect as well. No more grass clippings dragged into the house by the dogs and a lot less issues with thatch build-up. I installed the mulch kit myself but have not used it yet, but have areas of the yard where it will be nice to use. I will have to install a small baffle (two bolts) whenever I mulch and then remove it again when I bag, as it will interfere with the bagger connection to the mowing deck, but that is not a big deal. From what I have read, if you want the option of bagging, side-discharge, or mulching, the mulching blades should be installed instead of the high-lift blades for bagging. We'll see if the mulching blades will blow the clippings into the bag or not when I finally try it out.

Worst mower ever owned
The mower won’t start even when brand new. Dealer couldn’t fix it. It’s something in the safety switch circuits. Sometimes standing and sitting or toggling the PTO switch on and off will get it to start. The few times it’s run, it cuts great. However, spending hours trying to get it to run is not why I bought it. Seat safety switch and PTO switch have both been replaced. Since it rarely starts, I basically wasted $3800 making it the worst purchase of my life.

Purchased this mower several years ago and gave my 17 year old LT155 mower to my mother for my brother to use on her yard. So far I have not had the issues with my X350 that other owner have. Could be that where I purchased it from did a better job of putting it together. It is a heavier mower than the LT155 but that mower is still working also. I have over half an acre to mow. 99% Happy.....
Just bought it new and overall I knew I'd be happy. The only thing that concerned me was the mesh bags in the back. I really didn't want mesh but that's what it comes with. I've had a bagger for years but with hard bags on the back. This is the only thing I dislike about it is that feature. If they ever come out with the hard plastic bags, I will take these off. I have pretty much grass and not much dirt to run over, but this thing shot dust or whatever out and I was covered with it. The mower was covered with dust just from mowing. When the shoot tosses it in the bags, since they are mesh, any dust or dirt will billow out of the thing. Trying to dump the clippings into lawn bags wasn't that great either. When you dump the clippings, there is a strap on the bottom that you hold onto to lift it. When you dump it, once again I'm covered in dust and dirt because it comes out of the mesh. I'd have given it 5 stars, but because the mesh bags are a PITA, I'm giving it a 4 and hoping they offer up the plastic bags again.

100 Hours in No Problems
I bought the 42” deck X350 in 2018 and starting my fourth season mowing. This is my first John Deere and it’s been a pleasure to mow my little over 1 acre. I have some decent sized hills that I wanted to get a little heavier duty lawn tractor in the X350 than the big box stores, and I have no problems getting up the hills and weigh 250 lbs. I have had no problems other then the seat splitting but I maintain each season by the book. 1st year used the JD dealer I purchased and that was more expensive than my car maintenance, so I have a small engine repair shop look after. I was worried about the transmission going, which is sealed and oil can’t be changed, etc, but it’s doing a good job so far.

Great engine, terrible deck.
My last John Deere L110 lasted 17 years with regular maint. So I bought an X350 it has a nice Kawasaki engine with lot's of torque, I have had problems with the deck from day one. Granted my lawn is not even, but it should produce a better cut than it does. I have had it back to John Deere 3 times to try and level the deck, now the deck is bent by the spindle. I will look for a mower with a fabricated deck next time. I would recommend looking at other mowers.

Clippings everywhere
I have owned many John Deere mowers over the last 30 years. The X350 is excellent in most ways. Best cutting deck i have owned. Too bad it throws grass clipping all over the machine and operator. No blow-out baffle anymore and it spits clippings atop the deck several inches deep. The bagger has tremendous suction and does a great job. Seem that JD built the deck and then cobbled a bagger bracket and flap for it. I would prefer a complete redesign chute, rather than making a previous model fit. Mulch kit proved pointless for me, and did a very poor job despite grass length.

Second X series that I have owned.
I have been mowing grass for 50 years. I had a lawn service for 2 years and I have owned John Deere equipment(including ztraks, lawn tractors, tractors, walk-behinds, and trimmers) for 35 years, so I know John Deere mowers. Other than general maintainence, I have always had very good luck with my mowers. When I went to buy a new mower I went to the local John Deere dealer and got a good deal and I am very satisfied with the mower. I know and have used Craftsman, Cub Cadet, Husqvarnas, and Murrays, they are not in the same league with Deeres. John Deere X mowers are built for people who need mowers that last. And that's my review and I am not bias I telling my experiences.

John Deere D130 Riding Lawn Mower- Bad!
I purchased a 2014 John Deere Riding lawn mower NEW and it already needs a new transmission after 98 hours. I am very DISAPPOINTED in the quality of this product! No more John Deere!!!

A very nice running machine
Decided to trade in my 1993 LX 176 on the X350. I had to get one ordered as the dealers in my area did not have a 42" deck in stock. The machine is very smooth running and steering is very easy. I have a very thick bed of grass and as a result the mower was cutting the grass too short.i checked the height of the deck and found that it was set too low and the tires had twice the pressure that was recommended. I followed the instructions in the manual set the tires to recommended pressure and then adjusted the deck height to be higher than what was recommended. I now have the mower working great on my yard. The oil change was easy with a cup for the filter. The seat is very sensitive to any movement and will shut the engine off if I get light on the seat. Something I need to check out further. All in all a very nice machine which I enjoy.

Great mower, but set up wasn’t correct.
I love this mower. This is my 4th JD, not because they wear out, but because I upgraded. My complaint is that do not know how to level the deck. My yard looked awful. To much trouble to take it in so I leveled it myself. It was very easy. If you’re going to sell the best mowers, at least set them up correctly.

Needs more drivetrain power on hills
I was SO excited for my first mow. Because of Covid it took about a month and a half to receive the X350 42". Scalped the lawn on my first pass. Dealership had installed Mulch Control system and said everything was all set... deck height was at least an inch too low. The engine seems under powered. The blades never slow down and I can mow through pretty tall grass no problem. But the X350 can't pull me up a hill very well. I have to get speed going first to have momentum. And brakes... what brakes? Coasting downhill does just as much speed reduction as being full on the brake. I expected a LOT more for how much money this mower cost.

Great mower!
After 3 1/2 years of use I’m still overly happy with the purchase of this mower. Its been a great mower, with no issues! I do my regular maintenance more often than recommended, have had zero issues! My seat has torn on both sides, doesn’t bother me, just a bummer. My only complaint comes from the mulch kit, when mowing tall grass, the output clogs, when i take off the mulch plate it doesn’t. Overall a fantastic mower, I recommend to anyone who asks!

John Deere X 350 42 inch mower
While this is a fine mower I just turned over 7 running hours on it; got a stick in the deck belt and threw it off. I ran my previous brand mower (not suppose to give the brand name in this review) 17 years and never threw a deck belt off. The JD belt is much too exposed. It needs the addition of a guard. Also I dislike the JD transmission compared to my previous brand of mower. On the other mower when you take your foot off of the forward pedal the tractor stops on a dime and stays there. No brakes needed. On the JD taking your foot off of the pedal (forward or reverse) leaves it free wheel. My yard is sloped and it would be easy to run off a bank or hit a tree if I cannot stop quickly. The brake pedal is a foot in the air making it too far of a leg movement to use it to stop quickly. I have made due with getting into the habit of using the reverse pedal as a brake when needing to stop quickly. In my opinion this is a dangerous set up on this machine.

Disappointed
I bought this tractor in the spring and besides the dealer problems this machine is over priced for the quality.

Excellent MOWER
I could not be happier with this mower. It was great investment and a huge upgrade. I have used several other brands of lawn tractors and none come close to this one. The engine is super quiet and lugs through tough jobs very easily. I do wish the brake pedal was on the left side of the unit instead above the hydrostatic drive pedals.

Cuts and runs great!
I’ve only had this a few months but so far there have been zero issues! The 48 inch deck is a good size for my property.
